Math problem solving

This term in Te Maunga  we have been collaborating in groups of three to work out problem. Most days after morning tea the experts that need a bit of help in their learning go up with Mrs Pou and she teaches them some things that they can tell us about what they learnt and how the teacher showed them ways to work it out. My group is Dale, Me and our expert is Vaughan. This week we have been doing problems that include stars because this week is Matariki week. We have problems like there are seven stars in the Matariki constellation each star has five points so we would do five times seven then the answer. We also did what if stars had seven points so we did seven times seven and the answer. I think my group works kind of well they ask each other question and letting each other have a try to figure out the answer.

Hiwi the Kiwi

Our class has written a story about Hiwi the Kiwi when he came to visit our school. He told us if we wrote story telling people what we have learnt we might able to win a fishing rod that lights up. The Minstrel also said that might have a chance to win hiwi the kiwi STYLE! posters. It was on 21st of June Paihia School went to the whare to see Hiwi The Kiwi to learn about seafood(kaimoana) and seabirds(manu moana). Hiwi the Kiwi sang songs about the kaimoana to help save them and to give messages about them. He also talked about boat safety like wear your life jacket or sitting down when the boat is moving.
