The Importance of a Quality Blog Post

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to make a quality blog post. I learnt that it is important to add a catchy title to interest the reader. We made DLO’s to explain what we learnt about making quality blog posts. We explained what you need in a  quality blog post and why you need it in your post. It shows you the importance of the six things you need to make a quality blog post. I think what I could have done better was explain sources by using more detail. I hope you enjoy my DLO. What could I have done better?

Making Hummus

On Tuesday Whaea Gina came and taught us how to make tasty homemade hummus so we do not need to buy it from the supermarket. The recipe is one can of chickpeas, one tablespoon of peanut butter, some salt and pepper, cayenne pepper and some garlic and lemon. Then you blend it all together in a blender and you have an amazing hummus to have with your crackers and carrot. This is a healthy dip and you know exactly what is in your hummus.

Beach clean

On  Friday the 13th of September Paihia School had  a beach clean up. All the class went at  different times my class went in the morning. Once we had done the role we all went and put our shoes on and lined up. Once we got to the beach the teacher told us to get into groups of five we each got some gloves and then a rubbish bag per group. While we were down at the beach picking rubbish we found lots of cans and bottles in between the rocks.  We figured that because there is  a liquor ban people try to hide that they have been drinking and put there bottles in between rocks. We also found lots of cigarette butts around rubbish bins and seats. I learnt that some people do not listen to the rules maybe  because they do not agree with rules.

Story Beats

In writing we have been using story beats to help us plan our writing. Story beats are the main parts of the story that help set up how the story is going to work. We had four pictures to choose from to make a story using the story beats. When we have used the story beats to plan our writing, we  wrote out the main parts of the story and just added more detail in between beats. Here is an example my group made to help us write our own writing.

We used this photo to base our story on then we started using  the story beats.

Once upon a time...
There was a black murky shadow who lived in the darkness and
loved his son
Every day….
They would go on adventures during the night, exploring
woods and abandoned houses and the shadow would
tell his son do not leave my side or go wandering off
because you do not know what could happen or who
you  could run into.
Until one day...
As they were exploring an abandoned house, his son
walked off into a different room and the wind blew the
door locked
Because of that...
The murky shadow tried  to open the door every night
to rescue his son.
Because of that...
He was seen by a person, who got scared, dropped
their keys and ran away
Because of that...
The shadow was able to unlock the door
Until finally...
He got his son out of the room
And ever since then….
they stick together and stop going into abandoned
house
The moral of the story is...
Stick with your family

Energize

On Tuesday Whaea Gina came in to talk to us about drinks. She colour coded the drinks so ones that were good for you went in green which meant always. Drinks that went in orange meant sometimes and drinks that went in red meant occasionally . Ones that went in green were like  water and milk because they help your body. Ones that went in orange were like juice, flavored water, powerade and flavored milk. Did you know that powerade is half sugar half salt? The drinks that went in red are like fizzy drinks and energy drinks. Whaea Gina told us about the different drinks and why they are good for us and why they are bad for us. She even told us that countdown is not selling energy drinks to under 16 year olds because our hearts can not cope with how much caffeine is in energy drinks. Adults hearts can cope with caffeine better because there hearts are bigger. I never knew that kids hearts could not deal with lots of caffeine because it makes your heart beat too fast. Did you know that your heart is the size of one of your fists and your brain is the size of two of your fists? With what I have learnt I will tell my parents about it so they know too and I will try to drink lots of water and milk.

Cross country

On Friday the 30th of August Paihia school had cross country. When we got to school everybody was excited. At 11:15 everybody started getting ready to go to cross country we all lined up in our class on the court. Some people went by bus and some people went by car. When we got to Bledisloe domain we got set up and then we started the races it started from the 5 year old boys then 5 year old girls and kept going up. When the races started I went to the finish line to cheer the kids on. The five year olds just had to go around the field, the  six and seven year olds did the field and a bit of the drive but 8, 9 and 10 year olds did a lap of the field up the drive and round two paddocks. The 11 and 12 year olds did round the field up the drive through three paddocks and another lap of the field. When it came to my turn as a ten year old girl I was a bit nervous. I ran most of it and only walked a tiny bit but I tried my best and came second to last. Lots of people were cheering me on as I crossed the finish line. I think everybody had a good time because I did but everybody was tired. The people that came first, second or third gets to go to inter school cross country. These are pictures from cross country.
