Science

In Te Ngahere we were learning about the steps for scientific method. We were
learning about the scientific method because we are doing science fair projects.
These are the steps to the method.

  1. Ask a question (Which water is better to drink town supply or tank water?)
  2. Gather information and observe (research)
  3. Make a hypothesis (guess the answer)
  4. Experiment and test your hypothesis
  5. Analyse your test results
  6. Present a conclusion

Te reo

In Te Ngahere we have been doing a animation about our Whanau in Te reo maori.
We have been learning how to talk about our family I Te Reo Maori.
We had to put our Mum, Dad, Grandparents, Siblings and Aunts and Uncles.
We have also been learning how to ask and answer questions about our Whanau in
Maori. Here is an example  Ko wai ma ratou witch in English means who are they.

STELLA

At our school on 31st of may a lady named Whaea Stella came to talk to us.  We were learning about what the pest in the bush were and what they did. She talked to us about Bay Bush Action. She told us about the pest she had trapped such as stoats, possums, rats, ferrets ect so that she could keep the kiwi in our bush safe. We got to touch possum fur. She explained to us that we were the problem, but now we can be the solution. Stella said that every single one of us in the room had the potential to be something great. What I could do better next time is sit still. After we came back to class we made something to show what we learnt I did three things but I am only going to show one here it is.

Writing

This week in Te Ngahere have been doing writing we have been trying to write a diary entry from somebody else's point of view. My writing was about people against immigrants and refugees. It was quite challenging because I didn't agree with their point of view. Here is my piece of writing.

(I do not agree on any of this I think refugees and immigrants should be able to stay in New Zealand as long as they live by our laws they should not have to give up their religion culture or how they dress)

Date: 28th may 2019
My Writing: Day 1
I can’t believe It! The government  have just announced they are taking in another 5000 new immigrants.
I am so Furious! Don’t they know there going to take our jobs there's not enough employment
in New Zealand any way. I am going  to lose my job because of those immigrants.
I won't have enough money to put food on the table for my family. They're going to run my pockets dry.

Day 2

I'm still seething about what I heard on the news last night. There going to take our house there is not enough
properties in New Zealand. There  is enough people living in the street here because they can't afford houses
and there's not enough property for them to buy or rent. It seems out it seems outrageous. Don’t the know
we have a problem with to many people and not enough food, money or house.

Marble reflection

In Te Ngahere we  did the great marble challenge we were learning about friction and how the marble moved on different surfaces. We made ramps and wrote out instructions for another group to make our ramp. Our ramp got 4 points  because our instructions were not clear enough.

The Great Marble Challenge reflection
What was something your group did well? Cooperating

What is something you could have done better? Make our instructions clear such as place the clear ruler just on the purple ruler instead of  Put the other clear ruler at the bottom of the purple ruler vertically.

How close did your marble get to 110 cm? NOT CLOSE!!
Did the marble go further than 110 cm? Yes!
Or shorter?  Further

Why do you think your ramp was or was not successful? I think our ramp was not successful
Why? Because our instructions were not  clear enough.

How clear were your instructions? Pretty clear
What was something you explained well?  Put the ice cream container facing with the bottom up
What was something that needed to be clearer? Put the other clear ruler at the bottom of the purple ruler vertically.

If you had an opportunity to design a new ramp.  What would you change? The angel of the ramp

Marble DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been making ramps to roll our marble down and try to get the marble bang on 110cm. We are learning about variables, friction and how the marble moves on different surfaces. I think what I did well was working with my group on variables. What our group  could do better is make our ramp sturder.

Whaea Kerry & Whaea Monika Visit

On Monday the 18th of February Whaea Kerry & Whaea Monika came to our school. They were there to talk about our Identity and how our ancestors came to  NZ . Our project is to make people to go in our Waka so we can paddle using the hoe we made to paddle to the Naghere. We each got to make a tree I chose to make a ponga fern. Then we got everything we made and put it in a virtual reality. Some people made birds and insects to go in our Naghere. We have not quite finished our world but when we do we will show the school in assembly.  I think I worked well with my buddy. I think if I could use tinkercad fast I would get done faster.
